Born Sept 28, 1840 in or near Ladoga, Indiana, Vincent H. Rose died at the Montgomery County Poor Farm at 11:45 o'clock a.m. on May 8th, 1916 of chronic nephritis and varoius infirmities of old age.  He was raised in the Ladoga area, practiced elsewhere then returned home to pass his later years.  About two years before his death, Dr. Rose lost his eyesight, probably the reason he went to the poor farm.  Although he was married, he was listed as not only a widower but a school teacher at death.  He was 75 years 7 months and 10 days old.  He is buried in the Stoner Cemetery near Ladoga.

Vincent was the son of Alford and Mary Morrison Rose, probably the youngest of their reasonably large family, four sons and two daughters.  At age 22, he registered for the Civil War, listed as a student.  A graduate of Rush Medical College in Chicago, he was a doctor with Allopathic views.

Evidently, a multi-talented man, he was a Druggist in the 1870 (Lebanon) Boone County census, and even a gardener in 1910, a short few years before he went to the poor farm.  His home is mortgaged.

He was married to Lucy (maiden name Walker) in the above 1870 census.  She was born in Missouri and by the 1880 census, was with their child, Clara living in Chicago, Illinois, with Lucy listed as divorced.

Clara went by the name Clare Summers, and was also divorced.  She lived with her father until her own death of tuberculosis on March 4, 1915.  She is also buried in Stoner Cemetery, born in Jamestown August 17, 1870.
